LEBANON, Tennessee (WKRN) – Authorities in Wilson County are searching for the “Deadpool Bandit”, a man who terrorized a store clerk with an assault weapon.
This happened on November 15 around 9:30 p.m. at the Dollar General in the 10500 block of Murfreesboro Road on the Wilson-Rutherford County line.
It was there that a man wearing a Halloween mask and holding an assault weapon broke through the door and demanded the money.
Store video shows the “Deadpool Bandit” entering the store.
He was covered from head to toe with gloves and a dark hoodie. The thief wore a Deadpool mask, made popular by the blockbuster Marvel movie.
The man, described as being around 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, holds what the clerk initially described as an AK-47 in his right hand.
Retail Sgt. Walker Woods of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said it was difficult to know exactly what type of long gun it was, but he says it is genuine.
“We believe it is an assault rifle. It was reported to us as an AK-47, but it’s hard to tell from the quality of the video we have. But we believe it is a legitimate weapon, ”said Det. Sgt. Woods said.
Store surveillance showed the Deadpool Bandit demanded the clerk’s money, then set off on foot.
No cars were seen in the parking lot.
“In our investigation, we found nearby tire tracks that we believe may be associated with it. So naturally we’ve taken action from those in the event that we develop a suspect, we can track that and get action from a suspicious vehicle, ”the detective said. Sgt. Woods said.
News 2 got the 911 call from the store.
The first woman who spoke to dispatchers was a coworker who was in the lower back when the Deadpool Bandit entered.
Clerk: “We just got robbed. He had an AK-47. It looked like a big … “
911: “Ma’am, is anyone hurt?” “
Clerk: ” No one is hurt. He walked in and grabbed my colleague.
A second dispatcher then entered online.
911: “Is he on foot or in the car?” “
Clerk: “He’s on foot. He came with a big gun. He’s really tall. It was about as long as his leg.
Then the dispatcher spoke to the woman who encountered the Deadpool Bandit.
911: “How are you?”
Clerk: “I’m fine. I’m fine. I did as he told me to do. He hugged me, then left. He spoke softly. So, I guess he was young. .
News 2 asks det. Sgt. Woods on the unusual act during a robbery.
“Yeah, towards the end, and I don’t know if it was trying to put her at ease, to make her believe that her safety was not in danger.” But he puts his arm around her at the end of the transaction and he says thank you, ”det. Sgt. Woods said.
