EAST PEORIA (WEEK) – A 52-year-old business in East Peoria bids farewell to its loyal customers. La Petite Épicerie should close at the end of June.
Little Grocery owner Missy Simpson says goodbye to her daily customers in East Peoria.
” It was great. I loved every second of it,” Simpson continued, “Everyone is sad to see us go. There aren’t too many of us anymore.
Simpson says it was the culmination of events that led to his retirement.
“The economic climate. Right now, people are spending everything extra on gas and groceries. There’s not much left for the game and the lottery,” Simpson said.
Closing its doors by June 30 means leaving customers like East Peoria resident Ronald Blanch behind.
“I like the people running it,” Blanch said.
Blanch has been frequenting the store for over 20 years. He says he didn’t want to believe the news.
“I really don’t want to see them go,” Blanch said.
However, Simpson still plans to keep in touch with familiar faces, socially.
“I’ll keep in touch with a lot of them,” Simpson said.
In the meantime, Simpson plans to put its remaining items up for sale until the end of the lease next month.
