Governor Ivey provides grant to help establish RV store, complex in Heflin; 130 new jobs expected

HEFLIN, Alabama (WBRC) – Gov. Kay Ivey has provided nearly $ 1 million to attract new businesses to the town of Heflin and create 130 jobs.

The $ 950,000 Community Development Block Grant will pave the way for a large US recreational vehicle store and recreational vehicle resort. The development will be located on a 30-acre site in the Heflin Industrial Park.

“RV travel and camping is booming, and Alabama, with its year-round moderate climate and scenic beauty, is a destination for RV travelers,” Governor Ivey said. “This latest venture in Heflin will provide a wonderful site for RV owners looking to have their vehicles serviced, purchase a new vehicle, or just enjoy a beautiful campground. It will also create new employment opportunities for residents of Heflin and surrounding areas.

CDBG funds will be used to provide public water and wastewater to the development that is being built off Alabama Highway 46 near Interstate 20.

Great American RV is expected to invest $ 18-20 million in development and estimates the dealership could generate up to $ 100 million in sales each year. The RV complex will have 375 paved campgrounds and several cabins along with other amenities such as hiking trails, a swimming pool and wading pool, a fenced dog park and a restaurant.

Two other Great American RV Superstores stores are located in Alabama, including Calera and Red Bay, which is home to Tiffin Motorhomes Inc., a manufacturer.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will administer the grant made possible with funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“ADECA is pleased to join Governor Ivey and the Town of Heflin in playing a role in this development that will benefit Heflin and Northeast Alabama,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell.
