Motorola Solutions acquires video analytics provider Calipsa

Calipsa is the latest addition to Motorola Solutions’ Video Security & Access Control organization, which now includes Avigilon, IndigoVision, Pelco, Envysion, Openpath and Ava Security.

CHICAGO – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) announces the acquisition of Calipsa, a London-based cloud-native advanced video analytics technology provider. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Calipsa’s scalable platform enables enterprises to optimize security with AI-powered analytics that verify alarms, enable content-based searches, detect tampering, and assess camera health in real-time. According to the company, the solution is used by enterprises and security monitoring customers around the world.

“We believe that AI, spanning from the edge to the cloud, is driving the future of video security,” said Greg Brown, president and CEO of Motorola Solutions. “With Calipsa, we can quickly extend our intelligent analytics to any video security solution and support the growing trend for enterprises to use cloud technologies to improve safety and security.”

Calipsa’s cloud-based technology allows customers to add AI to existing IP cameras without additional hardware, enabling new analytics capabilities on already deployed IP cameras.

“Calipsa and Motorola Solutions share a mission to keep businesses and communities safe,” said Mohammad Rashid, CEO of Calipsa. “Joining the Motorola Solutions team allows us to accelerate the development and expand the reach of our innovative technologies that transform video from a retroactive investigative tool into a proactive response tool.”

This deal is just the latest in a series of acquisitions from Motorola Solutions to bolster its new video security and access control organization, which includes Avigilon, IndigoVision, Pelco, Envysion and Openpath product suites. The company recently acquired Ava Security, another London-based provider of cloud-native security and video analytics, last month.
