Specialty food company Stonewall Kitchen will close its store at 182 Middle St. in Portland by the end of the month, citing conflicts with upcoming renovations to their building, company officials say.
The store building will soon undergo a major renovation project that would reduce Stonewall’s retail space, making it untenable for them to continue there. Company spokesman Jacob Ouellette said they hope to reopen a store in Portland in the future, although there are no firm plans at this time.
“We love the Portland area and it has served us well for the 24 years we’ve been there, so finding a new location in Portland is our goal,” Ouellette said.
The company has 10 other Stonewall Kitchen stores in New England. The company’s flagship Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School in York closed last December, in part because the pandemic dampened the public’s appetite for in-person cooking classes.
