Theragen Inc. announced the issuance of a US patent for the ActaStim-S, a spinal fusion bone growth stimulation system that is believed to promote healing and encourage patient compliance during the postoperative process.
According to a press release, the ActaStim-S system is equipped with digital health data connectivity to enable better engagement and dialogue with patients.
“Spinal fusion is a healing process, often characterized as a race to achieve solid fusion before the implanted material fails,” Chris McAuliffe, CEO of Theragen and co-inventor of the ActaStim-S, said in the release. “Electrical stimulation is a clinically proven, safe and effective postoperative adjunctive therapy that can help patients win this race; however, its clinical effectiveness requires regular use over several months. That’s why we’ve taken a user-centric approach, designing a more portable device that also offers a digital health component that gives patients the unique opportunity to engage, track and impact. real about their own recovery,” he added.
